Smart Lenses

Our natural lens loses its flexibility after the age of 40 and we begin to have difficulty seeing up close. That’s why we need close glasses. At older ages, we begin to be unable to see the middle distance clearly.

With Smart Lenses, uninterrupted and fluent vision can be obtained at far, medium and close distances. When the natural intraocular lens, which has lost its transparency and elasticity, is replaced with these smart lenses, the patient can get rid of all his glasses for life. However, life-long cataracts do not develop in patients implanted with a Smart Lens.

You Can Return Home The Same Day After Smart Lens Implantation

Smart Lens implantation is essentially the same as the cataract (phaco) method. Only the type of lens implanted in this process changes. The system is exactly the same. The intraocular lens, which has lost its transparency and or flexibility, is replaced with a Smart Lens with the help of ultrasonic sound waves by entering the eye anesthetized with a drop of 2.8 mm. This method is completely painless and seamless. It takes about 5-10 minutes. 2 hours after the procedure, our patient can open the eye bandage himself and start using the drops at home. After the procedure, patients begin to see all distances clearly.

It is avoided to be applied to patients with problems in the retina layer behind the eye and/or patients with corneal problems. For example, patients with advanced diabetic retinopathy, those with age-related macular degeneration, patients with degenerative myopia, patients with keratoconus, pellucid degeneration, and corneal scars can be given as examples.

Light Sensitivity May Occur for a Time After Smart Lens Implantation

Since the Smart Lens consists of rings, patients can see halos around luminous or bright objects for a while after the procedure (until the brain gets used to it). This situation lasts for a maximum of 3 months. We call this the neurogenic adaptation process. First of all, water should not be applied to the eyes for the first 4 days. It is recommended not to touch the eyes for the first 1 month. After the procedure, it is requested that the prescribed eye drops be used in a disciplined manner with decreasing frequency according to the recipe for 3 weeks, and the patients are asked to go to their routine checks on the 1st day, 4th day and 3rd week after the operation. Approximately 4-5 days after the procedure, there is no harm in returning to work for those who work in dusty and non-heavy jobs.

Generally, our patients return to their normal lives from the first month and they can even do sports.

Lifetime with smart lens

Generally, this method is preferred in patients aged 50 and over. This method can be used in patients with high eye numbers and especially in hyperopia patients, since multiple glasses are used. Not only hyperopia, but also myopia and astigmatism can be eliminated with this method. This procedure can be applied to almost all eye defects. This method can also be preferred in suitable patients with cataracts. This procedure can also be used at younger ages and in patients with an eye defect that cannot be corrected with an excimer laser. The smart lens can stay in the eye for life and is not required unless it is necessary to replace it.
